Discover The Underwater Museum At Isla Mujeres
An Art Gallery Underwater!
The underwater museum (M.U.S.A. Museo Subacuático de Arte) can be seen by snorkeling, glass bottom boat or scuba diving. There are also plenty of tours and excursions available and some with added fun to make this a whole day thing. The underwater museum is a 2009 commissioned project by The National Marine Park and The Cancún Nautical Association. There are over 500 life size statues that were cast from 90 fishermen and women. Â

There Are Two Main Underwater Museum Areas:
Punta Nizuc
Located on the southern tip of Cancun’s Resort & Hotel Zone, Punta Nizuc is a beach and marine park with an underwater museum. The area is shallow and is really only for snorkeling. I read there are 16 to 30 statues (some are sets) and the water depth is 2 to 4 meters or 6 to 12 feet.Â
Three artists, Jason Taylor deCaires, Elier Amado Gil and Roberto DÃaz Abraham created sculptures called: Understanding, Threshold, Untitled, Icebreaker, The Ocean Muse, The Gardener of Hope, Time Bomb, Last Supper and Claim.
To get to this Cancun snorkeling spot you head to the southern tip of the Cancun Hotel Zone. Â
Salon Manchones
Located off the southern coast of Isla Mujeres you can find 500-ish pieces of underwater art. Head to the south side of the island, Punta Sur which means south tip. Punta Sur Isla Mujeres is a state reserve park of over 1000 hectares or 2400 acres (almost 4 square miles). This is a deep water art gallery located 8 to 10 meters or 24 to 30 feet deep.Â

Where Is The Underwater Museum?
The actual location is out in the ocean and there I believe are three places. One at the southern tip of Cancun’s Hotel Zone. One at the southern tip of Isla Mujeres at Punta Sur and one somewhere in ocean in-front of the city of Puerto Morelos. I would add a map but the registered address just brings up a tour service in Cancun. Â
