Mayan Ruins Yamil Lu'um Overview:
Exploring the Yamil Lu’um Maya Ruins of Cancun
The Yamil Lu’um Maya Ruins
You may be surprised to find the Yamil Lu’um ruins nestled between two hotels (the Park Royal Cancun Resort and Westin Lagunamar Ocean Resort). The ruins consist of two temples, Temple of the Scorpion and Temple of the Handprint, were built between 1200 and 1550 AD and served as lighthouse towers. The ruins are well-preserved for their age and central location in the Cancun Beach Hotel Zone.
Getting to Yamil Lu’um Ruins
The Yamil Lu’um Ruins are located in the Cancun Beach Hotel Zone, which is an excellent choice for quality hotels and tourist attractions. After all, how many places in the world include hotels, Mayan ruins, and a pristine beach within steps of each other? Since the archaeological site is located on hotel property, you will need to access the beach to observe the ruins from a distance. However, if you put on your best smile and ask the hotel staff for a quick close-up view, you may get access that only hotel guests receive.
The ruins can be reached by taxi from Cancun International Airport; a 13-mile drive that will take you 20 minutes in usual traffic. If you are staying in the Cancun Beach Hotel Zone, consider asking your hotel concierge for shuttle service, or walk along Playa Marlin to take in the sight from the sand.
