Turtle Mound is an archaeological site and a park located in the Daytona Beach area, specifically in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. The site is known for its historical significance and its beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian River Lagoon.

Turtle Mound is a large shell midden, or pile of discarded shells, that was created by the Timucua people who inhabited the area from around 2000 BC until the arrival of Europeans in the 16th century. The mound is approximately 50 feet tall and covers an area of about 2 acres. It is believed to contain over 35 million shells and other artifacts that provide insight into the lives and culture of the Timucua people.

Visitors to Turtle Mound can explore the park’s hiking trails and boardwalks, which provide access to the top of the mound and panoramic views of the surrounding area. The park also features a fishing pier, picnic areas, and a visitor center where guests can learn more about the site’s history and ecology.

Turtle Mound is open year-round and there is no entrance fee. It is located at 6650 S. Atlantic Ave. in New Smyrna Beach and is easily accessible by car. Parking is available on-site.
