United States Astronaut Hall of Fame Overview:

Astronauts are true heroes. They are the brave men and women who understood the risks they took as they journeyed into space. Whether it was a primitive capsule or an advanced space shuttle, these willing explorers sat atop powerful rockets that could explode without warning. They fearlessly faced the fires of re-entry, as well as the possibility of no re-entry, never returning home, lost forever in the vastness of space. Yet these space pioneers eagerly took those risks. They lived for them.

Created by the Mercury Seven astronauts, the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame is located inside the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex Heroes and Legends building. It commemorates American astronauts, paying special tribute to inductees selected by a special committee of the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation. Featuring the world’s largest collection of personal memorabilia, visitors can learn about the lives of such greats as Alan Shepard, Gus Grissom, Neil Armstrong, John Glenn, and Sally Ride. Through compelling displays and interactive exhibits, these space heroes come to life.

Other displays include the Mercury spacecraft, Sigma 7, the Gemini 9A capsule, and the spacesuit worn by Gus Grissom in his 1961 Mercury flight. A 3D movie is available and there is an Astronaut Adventure room including simulators for use by children.

The Price of the Astronaut Hall of Fame is included in the Admission for Kennedy Space Center. It is open weekdays from 9AM-4PM and is wheelchair accessible.
