Smoky Mountain Knife Works is in SEVIERVILLE, on Highway 66 — a 108,000-plus-square-foot showroom defending its 'world's largest knife store' claim, founded in Pigeon Forge in 1978 by Kevin Pipes, who started out dealing in relics and Native American artifacts. The current showroom opened in March 1991. The 2026 guided tour at the top of this page, walked with a longtime staffer, is the anchor: movie-prop knives and swords, blades flown to the moon, and the old National Knife Museum space.

The store motto frames The Carpetbagger's 2018 wander: winding aisles past taxidermy (a grizzly holding a giant Swiss Army knife), a creek running through the building, dinosaur teeth, bayonets and replica swords from film and fantasy. In 2018 the National Knife Museum was still integrated into the store. The bond with Case Knives dates to the 1982 Knoxville World's Fair, per the guided tour.
The Relic Room
Inside the store is an antiques shop where the museum pieces are actually for sale: Civil War-era cigars and artifacts, fish fossils 48 to 53 million years old, a 1940s Tibetan temple bell, a World War II war-bond poster — most priced in the tens of dollars. Yankee in the South tour it twice; the store's animatronic creature band performs nearby and stars in their Christmas visit.

Several later films here are watch content — a multi-stop Sevierville day that finishes at the store, a free-things-to-do roundup, a pizza pairing — cataloged as what they are. The store is the back half of those days, which is exactly how most visitors actually experience it.
