Running since 1938, on word of mouth alone
The Scenic Boat Tour has carried passengers across Winter Park's lakes since 1938 with essentially no advertising — the review on this page notes it survives on word of mouth, and after riding it you understand why. A pontoon boat, about 18 passengers, one hour, and a skipper telling the story of every mansion you pass.
The canals are the highlight
The route crosses three lakes — Osceola, Virginia, and Maitland — linked by remarkably narrow, winding canals, hand-dredged in the timber era and now canopy-covered, jungle-like paths between the lakes. You glide past Rollins College, the Isle of Sicily, and lakefront estates — including, in one telling, a 5,000-square-foot historic winter cottage that was cut in half and moved to its site.
The practical layer
- Boats depart hourly, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., daily except Christmas
- About $20 a person (one older filming paid $16 adults / $8 kids — check the current board)
- Parking near the Morse Boulevard dock is very limited — the full ride-along on this page used the SunRail station instead
- Every sailing is different — repeat riders on this page make the point that a new skipper means new facts on the same route
Who it's for
It's the gentlest hour in the Orlando area — kid-friendly, senior-friendly, and the natural centerpiece of a Winter Park day with Park Avenue and the Morse Museum either side of it.
