Myrtle Beach with Kids — Family Guide

Myrtle Beach was built for families. The Grand Strand has more mini golf courses, water parks, and family entertainment per mile than almost anywhere in America — plus 60 miles of sandy beach.

Water Parks

Myrtle Waves Water Park — The largest water park in South Carolina. Wave pool, lazy river, speed slides, and a kids’ area. Full-day passes are significantly cheaper than theme park tickets.

Splashes Oceanfront Water Park (Family Kingdom) — A waterfront water park combined with a small amusement park. Right on the beach so kids can alternate between slides and sand.

Mini Golf

Myrtle Beach has 50+ mini golf courses — more than anywhere else in the world. The competition keeps quality high:

Topgolf Swing Suite / Captain Hook’s / Hawaiian Rumble — A few of the standouts from an overwhelming selection. Most courses are themed (pirate, volcano, jungle) and many have 36 or even 54 holes.

Mt. Atlanticus — The highest-rated mini golf on the Grand Strand. An Atlantis-themed course with caves, waterfalls, and ocean views.

Attractions

Ripley’s Aquarium — Walk-through shark tunnel, touch tank, mermaid shows, and a sea turtle rescue exhibit. One of the best aquariums on the East Coast. At Broadway at the Beach.

WonderWorks — An “upside-down” museum/attraction with interactive science exhibits, a ropes course, laser tag, and a 4D theater. Good for ages 5-14.

Broadway at the Beach — The central entertainment complex. Ripley’s Aquarium, WonderWorks, Topgolf, dozens of restaurants, and the Pavilion Nostalgia Park (classic rides). You could spend an entire day here.

Best Family Beaches

Surfside Beach — The “Family Beach.” Less crowded than central Myrtle, calm water, and a relaxed atmosphere. Free beach access with parking.

Garden City Beach — South of Myrtle, quiet and uncrowded. The fishing pier has a restaurant.

Main Beach (Myrtle Beach) — More action, more people, more vendors. Lifeguards in season. Walk to the SkyWheel and Boardwalk.

Rainy Day Options

Carolina Opry & Alabama Theatre — Family-friendly variety shows with music, comedy, and acrobatics. Evening performances that kids enjoy.

Coastal Grand Mall — Bowling, movies, and shopping when the weather doesn’t cooperate.
