Murrells Inlet is the Seafood Capital of South Carolina, and its MarshWalk — a boardwalk strung over the marsh along the restaurant row — is the Grand Strand's favorite waterfront strip. Its own story, told by a man who grew up here: about 25 years ago the inlet's property owners came together to build the boardwalk over the marsh — the old government dock became the Veterans Pier — and turned a fishing village waterfront into a dining-and-music strip with headboat fishing, dolphin cruises and goat sightings included.
The working waterfront
The Boones' full tour walks the loop at low tide: mud flats and clam beds exposed, the charter boats tied up, the restaurant row doing its summer business — half an hour of the MarshWalk as a working waterfront, not just a dining strip. Their lunch film slows it down: an outside table at J. Peter's in front of the marsh, 78 degrees, banana boats swinging past on the inlet.
Witches' Night
Two films cover the MarshWalk's signature piece of madness: the Grand Strand Witches Night Out, when hundreds of costumed witches descend for a charity night of music, dancing and restaurant-hopping. One filmer arrives before 5 p.m. on local advice and still nearly misses a parking space; his framing is the one to steal — a strip of bars along the marsh that several times a year fills up and becomes, in his words, an absolute madhouse. The CVB's postcard closes the page: come hungry.
