Located just 30 feet above sea level the area is flat and jungle. The main ruins are about 150 acres or 60 hectares. The surrounding area has remnants of a residential area that surrounded the temples and city center.

What does it cost to enter the Uxmal Ruins?

There are two fees for entrance to the main park area. There is the park fee and the state fee.  The total for both should be under 200 Pesos, or about $8 USD. Opening hours are from 8 am to 5 pm daily. If you opt in for a certified tour from Viator the fees are most likely included along with transportation.

Can you climb any of the ruins at Uxmal?

Yes, you can climb most of the structure or ruins at Uxmal. Many tourists spend the day at Chichen Itza thinking they will be climbing a pyramid, but there is no climbing at Chichen Itza. You can also climb many of the other ruins along Ruta Puuc.

What languages are spoken in the area?

The primary language is Spanish, but the Maya language is well preserved and is unique to this part of the world. There are many words that are spoken here, but nowhere else. Many schools now teach English as a second language and communication will not be difficult in the city of Merida.
