Best Breakfast & Brunch in Maui
Maui’s breakfast scene splits between beachfront resort dining, upcountry farm-fresh café culture, and the local plate lunch counters where sunrise surfers refuel.
Beachfront & Resort
Gazebo Restaurant (Napili) — Tiny oceanfront restaurant where sea turtles swim in the bay below your table. The macadamia nut pancakes and fried rice omelette are famous. The wait can be 45+ minutes on weekends. Worth every minute.
Merriman’s (Kapalua) — Upscale brunch at Kapalua Bay. Farm-to-table eggs, local fish, and views that remind you why you flew to Hawaii.
Local & Plate Lunch
Kihei Caffe — Massive breakfast plates at affordable prices. Loco moco, kalua pork hash, and banana macadamia nut pancakes. Cash only. The line starts before they open.
808 Deli (Kihei) — Breakfast sandwiches and burritos that locals swear by. Fast, cheap, and solid.
Tin Roof (Kahului) — Chef Sheldon Simeon’s counter-service lunch spot opens for an early lunch that doubles as brunch. The mochiko chicken and garlic noodles are not traditional breakfast but they’re what Maui eats.
Upcountry & Pre-Hana
Grandma’s Coffee House (Keokea) — On the road to Haleakalā. Coffee grown on the property, baked goods, and breakfast plates. Stop here on the way down from a sunrise trip to the summit.
Pa’ia Bay Coffee (Pa’ia) — The last coffee stop before the Road to Hana. Espresso, pastries, and smoothie bowls. Fuel up here.
Flatbread Company (Pa’ia) — Not traditional breakfast, but they open at 11 AM and the farm-to-table flatbreads are worth planning around.
