Las Vegas with Kids — Family-Friendly Activities
Yes, you can bring kids to Las Vegas. The city has invested heavily in family attractions, and beyond the casino floors (which kids can walk through but not linger near), there’s a surprising amount to do with children of all ages.
Theme Parks & Attractions
Adventuredome (Circus Circus) — Indoor theme park with roller coasters, bumper cars, a rock climbing wall, and midway games. Air-conditioned, which matters when it’s 115°F outside. Good for ages 4-14.
AREA15 — Immersive entertainment complex with Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart (a trippy walk-through art installation disguised as a grocery store), laser tag, VR experiences, and more. Older kids and teens love this. Some experiences have age minimums.
Shark Reef Aquarium (Mandalay Bay) — Walk-through tunnel with sharks, rays, sea turtles, and a touch pool. Smaller than major city aquariums but well done and conveniently located on the Strip.
High Roller Observation Wheel (The LINQ) — 30-minute ride in an enclosed pod 550 feet above the Strip. Kids love it. The daytime views are better for kids (they can see farther); the nighttime views are more dramatic.
Madame Tussauds (The Venetian) — Wax figures of celebrities, superheroes, sports stars, and more. Interactive — kids can pose with and touch everything. Good for an hour.
Shows for Families
Blue Man Group (Luxor) — Percussion, comedy, and audience participation. No dialogue, so it works for all ages. Kids 3+ admitted. The poncho seats (front rows where you might get splashed) are popular with kids.
Tournament of Kings (Excalibur) — Medieval dinner show with jousting, sword fighting, and a Cornish game hen you eat with your hands. Kids go absolutely wild for this.
Mac King Comedy Magic Show (Excalibur) — Afternoon magic show that’s genuinely funny and completely family-friendly. Budget-priced.
Mystère by Cirque du Soleil (Treasure Island) — The most family-friendly Cirque show. Acrobatics, clowning, and visual spectacle without any mature content.
Outdoor Adventures
Red Rock Canyon (30 minutes) — Easy hiking trails, desert wildlife, and rock formations that kids can scramble on. Calico Hills has short, accessible paths with great scenery. Pack water.
Springs Preserve (15 minutes) — Nature trails, desert tortoise habitat, splash pad, and exhibits about desert ecology. Excellent for curious kids.
Hoover Dam (45 minutes) — The dam tour takes you inside the structure — kids are fascinated by the scale. The bridge walkway has glass-floor sections.
Valley of Fire State Park (1 hour) — The red rock formations look like another planet. Short, easy trails to Fire Wave and Elephant Rock. Bring lots of water.
Pools & Water Fun
Mandalay Bay Beach — A real sand beach with a wave pool, lazy river, and a 1.6-million-gallon wave pool. Day passes may be available for non-guests.
Circus Circus Splash Zone — Outdoor water play area for younger kids.
Cowabunga Bay (Henderson, 20 minutes) — Full water park with slides, wave pool, and lazy river. Open seasonally (Memorial Day to Labor Day).
Arcades & Games
Game Nest Arcade (off-Strip) — Retro arcade with pay-one-price unlimited play. Hundreds of classic and modern games. A rainy-day (or 115°F-day) lifesaver.
Level Up (MGM Grand) — Modern arcade and gaming lounge on the Strip.
Practical Tips for Families
Kids on the casino floor: Children can walk through casino areas to reach restaurants, shows, and hotel elevators, but they cannot stop or linger near gaming areas. Security will redirect them.
The heat: Las Vegas summer temperatures regularly exceed 110°F. Outdoor activities should be done before 10 AM or after 5 PM. Carry water everywhere. Indoor attractions are your friend.
Stroller navigation: The Strip is stroller-accessible but the distances are deceptive — it’s 4.2 miles from Mandalay Bay to the STRAT. Use the tram systems (free between Bellagio/Vdara/Aria and between Excalibur/Luxor/Mandalay Bay) and monorail to save your feet.
