Best Las Vegas Shows & Entertainment
Las Vegas is the live entertainment capital of the world — and it’s not even close. On any given night you can see Cirque du Soleil, a world-famous music residency, Penn & Teller, Blue Man Group, and a dozen comedy acts, all within a few blocks.
Here’s what’s worth your time and money.
Cirque du Soleil
Cirque has more permanent shows in Las Vegas than anywhere else. These are the headliners:
“O” (Bellagio) — The crown jewel. Performed in, on, and above a 1.5-million-gallon pool that appears and disappears throughout the show. Acrobatics, synchronized swimming, diving, and a storyline about the theater of dreams. If you see one Cirque show in your life, this is the one. Tickets: $100-350.
KÀ (MGM Grand) — The most technically ambitious show on the Strip. A rotating stage that tilts to 90 degrees, martial arts, aerial combat, and a storyline about twin siblings separated at birth. The “sand cliff battle” scene is one of the most impressive theatrical moments you’ll ever see. Tickets: $70-250.
Mystère (Treasure Island) — The original Cirque show in Vegas, still running since 1993. Classic Cirque — acrobatics, clowning, and visual spectacle. Less water and technology than “O” but arguably more intimate. Tickets: $60-175.
The Beatles LOVE (The Mirage) — Cirque set to a remixed Beatles soundtrack. The audio mix (done by George and Giles Martin at Abbey Road) is extraordinary. Even if you’re not a Beatles fan, the staging and choreography are world-class.
Mad Apple (New York-New York) — Cirque’s edgier show. Comedy, live music, magic, and acrobatics. More of a variety show format. Fun for groups.
Music Residencies
Las Vegas has become the permanent home for major artists who want to perform without touring. Check current schedules — residencies rotate.
Recent and current residencies have included performers at venues like T-Mobile Arena, The Colosseum at Caesars, Dolby Live at Park MGM, Resorts World Theatre, and the Wynn.
Tip: Residency tickets are often cheaper than touring shows because the artist performs 20-40 nights in the same venue. Check the resort websites directly — they often have better pricing than third-party ticket sellers.
Comedy
Penn & Teller (Rio) — The longest-running headliners in Vegas history. Magic and comedy. Penn talks, Teller doesn’t (on stage, at least). They come to the lobby after every show to meet the audience and take photos. A genuine Vegas institution.
Carrot Top (Luxor) — Prop comedy that’s more clever than you’d expect. Consistently one of the best-reviewed shows in Vegas. Tickets are reasonable.
Mac King Comedy Magic Show (Excalibur) — An afternoon show that’s been running for years. Family-friendly, genuinely funny, and cheap. One of the best value shows in Vegas.
Magic & Spectacle
David Copperfield (MGM Grand) — The greatest living magician. Period. The show is polished to perfection after decades of performing. Illusions that genuinely baffle.
Criss Angel MINDFREAK (Planet Hollywood) — Love him or hate him, the production values are insane. Industrial-goth-magic-spectacle.
Shin Lim (The Mirage) — The two-time America’s Got Talent winner. Close-up card magic on a theater scale. If you appreciate sleight of hand, this is unmissable.
Dinner Shows & Experiences
Tournament of Kings (Excalibur) — Medieval jousting dinner show. You eat a Cornish game hen with your hands while knights battle on horseback. It’s ridiculous and fun, especially with kids.
The Rat Pack is Back — A tribute show recreating the Sinatra/Dean Martin/Sammy Davis Jr. era with live band. Pure old-school Vegas.
Absinthe (Caesars Palace, Spiegeltent) — A raunchy, irreverent circus-cabaret in an intimate tent outside Caesars. Adults only. One of the most original shows on the Strip. Not for the easily offended. Wildly popular — book early.
