Start in the supermarket
Omega Mart's trick is that the grocery store is real — meticulously stocked, every label readable — and it isn't. The April 2026 deep dive plays the full experience as its makers intend: collect the optional employee (Boop) card, which unlocks the story-quest layer and tracks where you've been; tap through the story stations; and work from the deceptively normal supermarket into the portal worlds behind it — the family works the quests and explores the alien-art back rooms under black light. Their first-timer advice: budget a couple of hours if you play the story through. The 2021 verdict (five months after opening) lingers where the deep dive hurries: the joke products (a wing sauce that is also a metal polish and squirrel deterrent), the robots and story threads running behind the store — the longer you explore, the more the store dissolves into hidden passageways, stairways and tunnels.
The satire, from the makers and from PBS
Two films explain what the wandering only implies. Meow Wolf's own making-of (2021) lays out the fiction: portals opening in the aisles, customers going missing, impossible spills no earthly product can clean — contemporary-art world satire buried in the deli section, artist characters woven through. A July 2025 PBS segment goes further: after the docuseries Human Footprint featured Omega Mart in its look at how supermarkets reshaped the planet, the host sits down inside the Mart with its creative director to discuss the satire — 'cruelty-free' juice from fruit that chooses when to fall — and how the attraction turns grocery-store language against itself. Read the product labels, the review film advises. These two explain why they're worth reading.
Planning the visit
Omega Mart anchors AREA15 (our AREA15 page covers the complex), and the December 2025 itinerary film is the best single planner for a whole day there: the Mart plus neighboring experiences like the infinity light room and the complex's dining — with the structural warning that attractions are priced individually, so decide your list before you go; the complex sits about five minutes off the Strip. The grand-opening walkthrough (February 2021) is the time capsule — secret cola door found on day one, the $35 ticket question and launch hours both long since changed, as its summary states. The closer is the current state in full: a 48-minute silent 4K walk (June 2026) through every aisle and portal world — the most complete visual record of the exhibit as it now stands.
