Winter is Gatlinburg's quiet season and the park's most dramatic one. These nine films cover both: Ober Mountain — Tennessee's only ski resort — graded across terrain, lifts and value by a ski-review channel, and a father-daughter first-snowboard day (rentals at the mountain; start with the snow tubing, it needs no skill).

A 2018 winter ascent of Mount LeConte — ice, wind, an empty summit, a night at the lodge in its skeleton season — is the extreme end. The park association's own films give Alum Cave Bluffs under snow (2010; its icicle fringe at its most dramatic) and Rainbow Falls locked in a frozen shell in 2025, otherworldly.
The quiet entrances
Greenbrier in snowmelt — the Middle Prong rushing, the park's least-crowded Gatlinburg-side entrance at its quietest. Newfound Gap Road driven the moment it reopened after a February 2024 snow closure. And six snowy miles of the Gatlinburg Trail corridor in January 2026 — river trail, Cataract Falls under snow, the Ownby Cabin — with a 2022 snow hike to the same falls rimed with ice.

Winter's bargain: empty trails and frozen waterfalls against closed roads and summit cold. The films date themselves; check the park's road status on the day.
