Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies is one of America's top-rated aquariums, improbably inland, at 88 River Road on the Parkway — 1.4 million gallons of water across the Tropical Rain Forest, Coral Reef, Shark Lagoon and the Penguin Playhouse. It turned 25 in 2025, and Bear Facts' anniversary film asks the right question — why here? — traces the Gatlinburg gamble behind it, and tours the last two years of changes. The 2025 full tour at the top of the page is built around the newest exhibit, Dragons: Myth Made Real.

Shark Lagoon runs on a moving walkway under the sharks — the longest tunnel and the biggest sharks one family here had ever seen. Touch-A-Ray Bay, the Discovery Center and the dive shows fill the route; penguin-parade viewing is built into the atrium, and the Playhouse keeps its own schedule. Sleepovers can be booked and mermaids appear seasonally, per the kids'-height film.
Strategy
Use the aquarium's own garages — the secondary garage is the plan B — and break the tickets and discounts down before the tour, as the definitive walk-through does. In The Loop's reviewer visited for the first time after twenty Gatlinburg trips and reports it held up against its best-in-America billing. The July 2026 worth-it test renders the current verdict: worth it as a family anchor.
