Best Breakfast in Gatlinburg

Gatlinburg may have more pancake houses per capita than any town in America. The competition has been fierce for decades, and the result is some genuinely excellent breakfast cooking — plus a growing specialty coffee scene for the caffeine-first crowd.

Pancake Houses

Pancake Pantry — The original (since 1960) and still the best. 24 varieties of pancakes. The Austrian apple-walnut and the sweet potato pancakes are signatures. The line wraps around the building on weekends. Cash or check only.

Flapjack’s Pancake Cabin (multiple locations) — Log cabin atmosphere, creative pancake flavors, and country breakfast plates. More space than Pancake Pantry, shorter waits.

Log Cabin Pancake House — Smaller, locally-owned, and the buckwheat pancakes and country ham are excellent. A solid choice when the bigger spots are packed.

Mountain Diners

Calhoun’s (Pigeon Forge) — Big breakfast buffet on weekends. Biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, and grits. Hearty fuel for a day of hiking.

Old Dad’s — General store vibe with a breakfast counter. Simple, fast, and the biscuits are made from scratch.

Coffee

The Village Bean — The best specialty coffee in Gatlinburg. Espresso, pour-over, and pastries in the Village Shops.

Coffee & Company — Good drip coffee and a quiet patio. A nice alternative to the busy pancake house scene.

Pre-Hike Fuel

If you’re heading into the Smokies for an early hike, the best strategy is grab-and-go from one of the bakeries on the Parkway. Pancake Pantry and Flapjack’s both open early enough for a sit-down meal before a morning trail.
