The Original Xcaret Adventure Park:

Xcaret Park Overview:

Xcaret Park is a water park, theme park, amusement park and eco park all in one.  The park has underground rivers, cenotes, above ground rivers and direct access to the Caribbean Sea/Ocean.

Inside Xcaret Park are attractions like the coral reef aquarium, a sea turtle center, a butterfly garden, an aviary, a rainforest trail, a jaguar enclosure and even a orchid and bromeliad museum!  You will see jaguars, manatees, flamingos, spider monkeys, saraguato, bats, deer, and tapirs.  Swim in underground rivers, stroll along rainforest/jungle trails and explore mysterious caves.  Discover new vivid colors at the Butterfly Pavilion and explore the mysteries of the ocean at the Coral Reef Aquarium.

There are many attractions to explore at Xcaret Park in Mexico.  Explore Mayan ruins, the Mexican Folk Art Museum, a traditional Hacienda Henequenera, and the Chapel of Guadalupe.  Enjoy Mexican culture and get entertained with pre-Hispanic dances, an equestrian show and a 300 stage artist Xcaret Mexico Espectacular show.

Xcaret is now a park but was once a Maya or Mayan port and trading center. The word Xcaret actually means “small or little inlet”. The area is littered with ruins that include ancient Maya Temples, homes, monuments and defensive positions. This site unlike Tulum has defensive walls to defend from ocean attacks. Tulum does not have walls but rather a cliff defending attacks from the sea. Today there are still 6 million Maya that live in Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and in parts of Mexico. A total 28 Mayan languages have survived.

Xibalba Reserve By Xcaret:

There is a new eco cenote reserve created by Grupo Xcaret!

Ancient Mayans believed there were three parts to the world around them.  They believed that there was a heaven or celestial vault, the Earth, and Xibalbá (hell or the under-world).

The Mayans believed that cenotes and caves all led to the underworld where souls continued on after death.

This new park is mostly underground, has tunnels and tours 6 cenotes.  The new park is located about 2.15 hours from the Caribbean coast just east of the Valladolid area near Yalcoba.  Xcaret has once again gone out of its way to create a reserve and preserve that will for years add to tourism throughout the area.  This new park is scheduled to be opened toward the end of June 2022!

I just read that Xibalba Reserve may never open due to Mexican Government eco concerns.
