Discover Myrtle Beach South Carolina
Myrtle Beach is the capital of the Grand Strand — some 60 miles of continuous Atlantic beach running from Little River to Georgetown, with Myrtle’s boardwalk, amusement piers and theater row at its center. More golf courses call this coast home than anywhere in America, and its dinner-show and variety theaters invented a genre of family nightlife the whole country copied. This hub is the map of the modern version: every guide below is built from real film, summarized honestly, with dated footage flagged rather than hidden.
Quick Facts: Myrtle Beach is on South Carolina’s Atlantic coast in Horry County. The Grand Strand runs about 60 miles end to end. June brings the Carolina Country Music Fest; spring and fall bring the bike weeks; Brookgreen’s Nights of a Thousand Candles closes the year in December.
The beach and the Boardwalk
The Boardwalk and Promenade runs 1.2 miles of oceanfront through the attraction core, with the SkyWheel turning 200 feet above it and Family Kingdom — the Carolinas’ only seaside amusement park, wooden coaster and all — holding the south end.

Broadway at the Beach is the Strand’s entertainment capital — six villages around a 23-acre lake, with Ripley’s Aquarium and WonderWorks on its loop — while Barefoot Landing wraps its lake in North Myrtle Beach with the Alabama Theatre and the House of Blues on its banks.
The theater row
Calvin Gilmore’s Carolina Opry started the Strand’s theater industry in 1986 and still anchors it; Pirates Voyage battles over an indoor lagoon a few miles away. Between them they define Myrtle Beach after dark.
The quiet south end
Drive 30 minutes south and the tempo drops: Brookgreen Gardens pairs America’s finest figurative sculpture collection with a zoo and 9,000 acres of Lowcountry, Huntington Beach State Park protects the coast’s quietest beach, and the MarshWalk strings the Seafood Capital’s restaurant row along the marsh in Murrells Inlet.
