Destin with Kids — Family Guide

Destin is one of the most family-friendly beach destinations in Florida — calm, warm Gulf waters, white-sand beaches, and a range of activities designed specifically for families with children.

Best Family Beaches

Henderson Beach State Park — Pristine white sand, calm water, and less crowded than the public beach access points. Covered pavilions and restrooms. $6 vehicle entry.

Norriego Point — A sand spit at the east end of Destin Harbor with shallow, crystal-clear water on both sides. Great for little kids — the water stays shallow for a long way out. Accessible by boat or kayak (or a short wade from the harbor side).

Crystal Beach — A residential beach area east of Destin with public access points, calm water, and significantly fewer crowds than the main strip.

Attractions

Big Kahuna’s Water & Adventure Park — Slides, lazy river, wave pool, and a kids’ area. Not as massive as Orlando water parks but fun, affordable, and right in Destin.

Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park — Dolphins, sea lions, penguins, and stingray touch pool. Smaller and more intimate than big-city aquariums. Dolphin encounter programs let kids interact up close.

Track Family Fun Parks (multiple locations) — Go-karts, bumper boats, mini golf, and kiddie rides. Multiple locations along Highway 98.

On the Water

Dolphin cruises — Several operators run dolphin-watching tours from HarborWalk Village. Bottlenose dolphins are abundant and sightings are virtually guaranteed. Some tours include snorkeling stops.

Pontoon boat rentals — Rent a pontoon boat and explore Crab Island (a shallow sandbar where boats anchor and families wade) or cruise the harbor.

Shell Island (Panama City Beach, 45 min east) — An uninhabited barrier island accessible by boat with pristine beaches and great shelling. Worth the drive for a unique family beach day.

Rainy Day

The Island Bowling at Destin Commons — Bowling, arcade, and restaurant complex.

Bass Pro Shops (Destin Commons) — Not a typical activity, but the massive store has a freshwater aquarium, a shooting arcade, and an outdoor section that entertains kids longer than you’d expect.
