Every Thanksgiving weekend, the speedway infield becomes the car hobby's biggest family reunion: the Daytona Turkey Run, begun in the mid-1970s and held at Daytona International Speedway since 1989. Its organizers bill it as the largest combined car show and swap meet in the United States — the films, including a first-timer's mega-walk who concludes nobody could see it all in one day, do not argue.
The scale of it
The show field holds over 6,000 vehicles; the car corrals alone fill multiple numbered lots; the swap meet sells everything from visible gas pumps and vintage signs to whole project cars. The 2025 walkthrough runs start to finish at ground level — show cars, corral, vendor rows — and the My Classic Car episode adds the institution's memory: run by the Daytona Beach Street Rods and the Racing District for over fifty years.
The Dream Build
Two films follow the Turkey Run's signature stunt: a 1955 Chevy pickup assembled in just four days at the show — body, chassis, engine, wiring, interior — cranked for the first time in front of the crowd, unveiled in a one-off PPG color, and auctioned on the spot with bidding past $80,000. The 50th running in 2023, rain and all, shows the swap meet's other truth: the hunting goes on in any weather.
Beyond the weekend
A spring edition runs the same show smaller (the CVB film previews it), and cruise night at Bel Air Plaza carries the week after dark. Bring a wagon for swap-meet finds — the walk back to the car is the films' universal practical tip.
