Tomoka State Park sits on a peninsula between the Tomoka and Halifax rivers in Ormond Beach — hardwood hammock, a shaded campground, and one of Florida's most layered historic sites: the Timucua village of Nocoroco stood here, and Fred Dana Marsh's towering Chief Tomokie statue still watches over the point. The films split, as visits do, between campers and day-trippers.
Camping Tomoka
Three campground tours go site by site: about 88 sites as filmed, 30-amp and water hookups, some concrete pads, three shower houses, and the amenity everyone headlines — shade, deep hammock shade, in Florida heat. One full tour opens with its creator's serious camping-safety message drawn from her own experience; a young family's toddler weekend (camp-stove spaghetti, unsuccessful catfishing, plans to return) is the honest version of family camping here.
The Outpost and the water
The Tomoka Outpost camp store draws unusual praise — 'one of the nicest in a Florida state park,' frozen bait and forgotten essentials, even its own-brewed beer per the day-visit film. Kayak and canoe launches sit on the peninsula point; the kayak-fishing film works the mangrove edges for fish busting bait and closes with a campfire dinner. Note the practical catch from the tour film: sites sit far enough from the Outpost and launch that you'll want a car or bike inside the park.
Day visit and deep history
Entry was $5 as filmed in 2021; the day film runs the statue trail — about a mile to the water — past a turtle on the path. The mound-complex tour adds the layers tours skip: shell middens, the Mount Oswald plantation ground, and the park's segregated-era history, interleaved with an original folk song (which is why it loads as watch content). Ten minutes over the river and you're back in Ormond Beach.
