Sunglow Pier has stood in Daytona Beach Shores since the 1960s — and the story of its last few years is the storm story of this whole coastline, told in one structure. Hurricane Ian wrecked it; the pier came back shorter, and its famous restaurant came back later. These nine films document every stage, including the parts brochures skip.
Crabby Joe's: destroyed, rebuilt, reopened
Crabby Joe's Deck & Grill sits on the pier itself, over the Atlantic. WESH 2's reopening-day report — August 2024, after nearly two years closed — notes the traditional feel kept and 98% of the staff returned, with a line of regulars out the door. A proper review from September 2025 finds the rebuilt room working: seafood platters, fish tacos, the mahi sandwich, ocean on every side, $58 for two as filmed. A Sunday breakfast buffet film adds the local ritual.
Fishing: the honest status
The 2021 fishing film shows the old rhythm — whiting off the rail, the blanket fishing setup, all-day sessions like the host's grandfather's. The 2026 film is the update, and it is candid: the crew drives down to fish the pier and finds pier fishing has NOT resumed since the storm damage, pays the $20 parking as filmed, and reroutes the day. A pre-hurricane walk shows the longer pier longtime visitors remember. Read together: the restaurant is back; as of the latest film, the fishing is not. Check before you bring the poles.
The pier itself
A 2025 tour walks the current structure end to end, local news covers the pier's own repair-and-reopening story separate from the restaurant's, and a drone flight closes the set. Comeback stories are this coast's genre; Sunglow's is unusually well documented.
