The Bandshell is Daytona's oceanfront living room: a coquina-rock amphitheater built in 1937 at the top of the boardwalk, facing the stage one way and the Atlantic the other. For decades its summer rhythm has been tribute-band concerts under the stars with fireworks over the water after Saturday shows — and remarkably, almost forty years of that history exists on film.
1987: the spring-concert era, preserved whole
Two complete concerts anchor this page. Bruce Hornsby and The Range played the Bandshell on March 24, 1987 — a full set with 'The Way It Is' and 'Mandolin Rain,' filmed in the venue's spring-concert era. Three days earlier that same month, Bad Brains tore through a hardcore set on the same stage. Between them they capture the Bandshell when it was a serious tour stop, not just a beach amenity.
The tribute-band tradition
The modern Bandshell runs on tribute acts, and the films show the range: a KISS tribute closing with 'Rock and Roll All Nite' in July 2023, the Alter Eagles' Eagles set from 2013, a Journey tribute in 2017, and an acoustic duo's 2022 set for scale. A 'Bandshell Concerts 2020' film rounds out the series years.
Fireworks over the water
The closing film is the Saturday-night ritual: fireworks launched over the ocean behind the boardwalk in 2015, the traditional end to a summer concert night. Everything on this page is watch content rather than narration — concerts are for listening — presented as filmed, from 1987 to today.
