Cocoa Beach Nightlife — Coconuts, Surf Bars & Things To Do After Dark
Cocoa Beach is a surf town with a young, casual energy. The nightlife is entirely beachfront—no downtown bar scene, no clubs, just beach bars where surfers, tourists, and locals mix. The vibe is relaxed and unpretentious. Most places close by midnight or 1 a.m., which is normal for a beach town that caters to people who get up early to catch waves.
Beachfront Bars
Coconuts on the Beach — The main attraction on Cocoa Beach. Right on the sand with an open-air bar, restaurant, and live music most nights. The vibe is pure beach bar—flip-flops welcome, cold beer, and a young, energetic crowd. Open until 1–2 a.m. on weekends, midnight on weekdays. Cover charge for live music is usually $0–5. The grouper sandwich is excellent.
Grills Seafood Restaurant & Bar — A full restaurant with a strong bar program, located right on the beach. Excellent seafood, full liquor menu, and a more relaxed vibe than Coconuts. Open until 11 p.m. most nights. Sit-down service with bar seating available.
Sandbar Sports Grill — A casual sports bar with multiple TVs, cold beer, and seafood. Right on the beach with a casual patio. Open until midnight or later. This is where people go if they want to watch a game with a cold drink.
Casual Beach Bars
Fat Donkey Bar & Grill — A smaller, laid-back beach bar with strong drinks, casual food, and a genuinely friendly crowd. Less touristy than Coconuts, more focused on locals and repeat visitors. Open until midnight on weekends.
Squeeze My Melons — A beach bar with a tiki theme, strong drinks, and a casual vibe. Outdoor seating, cold beer, and a relaxed atmosphere. Open until 11 p.m. most nights.
Late-Night Eats
Juice ’n Java — Despite the name, this is a spot with morning coffee and late-night juice, smoothies, and desserts. Many beach bar-goers end their night here around 11 p.m. or midnight. It’s become a de facto last stop.
Waffle House — Open 24 hours, full bar, and the standard late-night location for anyone out past midnight.
What to Do Besides Drinking
Cocoa Beach Pier — Open 24 hours, free to walk on. It’s well-lit at night and a nice spot to walk off drinks with a view of the ocean.
Sunrise Surfing — If you’re staying the night, the next morning has some of the best waves on the Space Coast. This is a surf town first, party town second.
Best for Groups
Coconuts on the Beach — The energy and the beach atmosphere make it perfect for groups. No reservations needed, just show up. There’s always space to stand and a bar to order from.
Sandbar Sports Grill — If your group wants to watch a game, this is the place. Multiple TVs, able to seat groups in a patio area.
What to Know
Cocoa Beach is small — Most bars are within a 5-minute walk of each other along the beach. You can bar-hop on foot easily.
No dress code — Wet swimsuit, shorts, flip-flops—that’s the uniform. Formality is nonexistent.
Parking is easy — Multiple paid lots near the beach ($3–5 for all day), free street parking on side streets. No parking nightmare like bigger beach towns.
Most places close by midnight or 1 a.m. — This is a beach town where people get up for waves, not a party-all-night destination. Plan accordingly.
Beer is the standard — While most bars have cocktails and wine, beer is what people order. Cold beer is the focus.
Tip culture is standard — 18–20% for bar service.
Summer is crowded, off-season is quiet — July–August, expect long lines and packed bars. October–March is much more relaxed.
Sunsets are the peak time — Bars fill up 5–7 p.m. as people come in from the beach. This is the best time to go.
The Cocoa Beach Pier is free — A nice place to walk at night or catch live music (there’s occasionally an outdoor stage).
