It is only three kilometers from Chichen Itza but from Valladolid it is about forty kilometers. Cenote Ik Kil is approximately thirty meters deep. The cenote is an open-top kind of cenote which gives you the experience of swimming under the sky instead of being a cave experience. The water is super clean and refreshing.

The opening hours of this cenote are 9 am to 5 pm and is open throughout the entire week. There is also an entrance fee, sadly they do not provide any discounts for the groups. It is advised that you bring your cash along because you might need it for the facilities and also because they do not accept cards. The facilities include changing areas, bathrooms, free parking, rental lockers etc.

Since cenote Ik Kil is extremely beautiful, many tourists and locals make their way to this cenote, so it gets crowded. If you want a quiet experience, then you should go early in the morning. The Cenote Ik Kil is gorgeous and one of its kind. The walls of the cenote are covered with green leafs which is not usually found in other cenotes.

Many vines hang down from the top of cenote which enhance the beauty of this cenote and touching them is completely prohibited. They stop from doing so in order to preserve the beauty of their cenote so you should respect that. The use of sunscreen, makeup and repellents is also advised to be avoided.

This also makes it quite popular as tourists visiting the world wonder also tend to visit this beautiful cenote. Many other facilities provided by the cenote are sun beds, hammocks, cliff jumping, lifeguards and also a restaurant.

This cenote is also significant as the Mayans consider it holy as they used this cenote as a sacrificial site.
