What fun things will you do in Cancun & the Riviera Maya?
Cancun & the Riviera Maya offer hundreds of fun things to do, see and experience. The Yucatan peninsula has thousands of cenotes, dozens of ruins and it’s ocean waters are part of the world’s second largest reef system, the Meso American Reef System. From award winning theme parks to pristine beaches, Cancun & the Riviera Maya have it all!
Fun Things To Do On Isla Holbox:
You need to see it, to believe it. This small island is perfect for a complete disconnection from the world. It only has a few unpaved streets and is surrounded by white, soft sand. This is the perfect destination for a castaway like island getaway. During the day you can walk through the small town of Holbox, see murals, visit Bird Island, or just chill on the beach. In the evening experience the bioluminescent beaches or local nightlife. From late May through September is Whale Shark season where you can swim with Whale Sharks.

Fun Things To Do On Isla Mujeres:
Isla Mujeres is best known for its amazing beaches, the Ixchel Ruins and the Underwater Museum. You will have to rent a golf cart, pay for a ride or walk since there are no vehicles (cars) on the island. The island is 5 miles long and about a half mile wide. There are ferries that can take you there. On the South side of the island you can find Garrafón Park. This fun park offers zip lines over the ocean, swimming with dolphins, and more.
There is also an Xcaret owned and operated service called Xailing that goes to and from Isla Mujeres. In the surrounding waters there are ship wrecks that you can wreck dive (scuba/snorkel) like Barco Hundido. You could try fishing the waters around Isla Mujeres through a private fishing excursion. That evening, enjoy eating your catch of the day. One of the most amazing beaches I have ever seen is on the north side of the island called Playa Norte.

Fun Things To Do On Cozumel Island:
The largest island in the Mexican Caribbean will amaze you with its crystal clear waters, to which you can arrive by airplane, cruise ship, ferry or private boats. There are access points from Cancun or Playa del Carmen. Professional scuba divers love Cozumel Island as it offers more than 30 different scuba sites.
Be bold, take an ATV, and go around the Island feeling free, with air blowing through your hair, sun on your face, and the breeze on your body. From South to North, you will never tire of sightseeing. One of the famous places here is El Cielo (Heaven), a place to walk and snorkel, surrounded by sea stars.
Looking for more activities in one single place? Try Chankanaab Park where you can zipline, snorkel, scuba dive, sea trek, and more. San Gervasio Ruins is a small archeological site that will take you back to the roots of Mayan culture. And if you want to feel like a local, go and eat Cochinita Pibil at Casa Denis, the oldest restaurant on the Island.

Fun Things To Do Cancun:
This is the heart of the Mexican Caribbean, with turquoise waters, white sand, and breathtaking views. The hotel zone offers more than 12 miles (20 kilometers) of beaches, hotels, restaurants, activities, malls, and more.
The ocean side of the Cancun Hotel Zone offers areas to relax on the beach and a number of ocean based activities like parasailing and ocean snorkeling/scuba. Nearby is Isla Mujeres, Punta Nizuc, and the underwater museum. There are also glass bottom boat rides and even jet ski rentals available. On some beaches, you can even book a banana boat ride.
The inside of the Cancun Hotel Zone is Nichupte Lagoon. You can visit mangrove islands on a kayak, take boat rides and snorkel/swim/scuba. If you like speedboats, you can rent them and of course there’s a waterpark.
At night the Cancun Hotel Zone comes alive with more than a half mile of nightclubs and bars. Coco Bongo’s is owned by Jim Carey and is a famous nightclub with two local locations (Cancun & Playa del Carmen).

Fun Things To Do Playa Del Carmen:
Playa del Carmen is famous for 5th Avenue, Coco Bongo’s, and like 1000 merchants selling everything from hats to liquor. The entire road is pedestrian only (no car traffic). The local gastronomy is diverse, offering anything from nice Italian restaurants to small seafood ones, bars, and handcrafted beer.
At night everything changes, the street becomes more vibrant and fuller of life, and you might hear mariachis in the streets, singing on terraces. Live music at bars and a joyful atmosphere will cheer you up. After spending some time at the bar, you can walk to the nightclubs like Coco Bongo or Mandala. That’s the beauty of Playa del Carmen’s main street, almost any place can be reached by foot.
Outside the main city, you will come across adventure natural parks, like Xplor where you will find ziplines, caves, subterranean rivers, and be able to drive an amphibious vehicle. The main park of this area is Xcaret. They offer an all inclusive park with optional extra activities you can add to your day. Check out the Sandos Caracol vacation promotion here.
Fun Things To Do Puerto Aventuras:
20 minutes away from Playa del Carmen, hides an almost “nautical luxurious lifestyle” experience in a small port town, with astonishing hotels, luxurious residences, a golf course, personal yachts, and fishing boats, which form the Puerto Aventuras complex.
The bay is the heart of the complex, with crystal waters, and soft and white beaches. The activities here go from swimming with dolphins, going fishing, diving, or spending the day in a catamaran, sailing the coast. But not all the activities are on the water; you can take an ATV ride in the lush natural jungle or go jogging around the gated community.
If you are more the type to look for a quiet, relaxed, and secluded stay, Puerto Aventuras and its almost private beach is the perfect option for you.

Fun Things To Do Akumal:
I must say that this small beach village is by far the best spot to be one with nature. Akumal is famous for its white, soft, and quiet beaches. This is secondary due to the main attraction here, of course: the turtles that are ready to swim by your side.
It’s recommended to hire a guide to take you exactly where they can be found, to take a memorable swim alongside these beautiful creatures and experience a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you will never forget. Only 200 people per day are taken to this activity, to protect and keep the turtles coming back. Touching or disturbing the animals is absolutely prohibited.
The best season to come here is from June to November, right at the peak of their nesting season. In fact, you can find turtles on any beach from Cancun to Chetumal, after 11:00 pm. It is requested not to touch or shine bright lights on the animals.

Fun Things To Do Tulum:
Tulum is the only place in Mexico where you can find an archeological site next to the beach. It is historical proof of the Mayans’ perfect and astounding astronomical knowledge. You’ll find yourself blown away by these must-see historical landmarks of Mayan culture.
This town is a slow-motion life, with its very particular and singular pace. You can walk the streets or take a bicycle, which is the traditional transportation method here. Or you can take a ride from the small City Center down to the beach; we recommend doing so with care, as the road is narrow, passing cars and motorcycles.
The beaches in Tulum are a mandatory visit; whether you want to spend the day at different beach clubs or go to a cenote and relax in these natural pools, Tulum is the place to go. At the entrance of Sian Ka’an, you can find a biosphere reserve and one of Mexico’s largest protected areas, home to dolphins, tapir, jaguar, howling monkey, and ocelots, to name a few. Visiting Tulum is a must and going to Sian Ka’an is worth the long ride.

Fun Things To Do Chetumal:
The state´s capital. The main attraction here is the Malecón, a short and simple piper, but the sightseeing is worth the walk. You can cross to Belize, to a shopping area called Zona Libre (free zone), famous for its Chinese products; whatever you can imagine, you will most likely find here, including some casinos where you can have a lucky day and beat the odds.
Outside of the city, you can find beautiful scenarios. As Calderitas, where you can rent a boat and go to Tamalcab to see spider monkeys, coatis, eagles or do some snorkeling and fishing. Visit the famous Bacalar known as the 7 colors lagoon, where a picture is worth a thousand words. Mahahual is another necessary pit stop. It has become the next tourist attraction on the Mayan Coast, famous for its port where hundreds of Cruise ships anchor every year.

Their gastronomy will delight you. From natural fruit sorbets to homemade tamales, you can skip the commercial dishes and immerse yourself in a complete cheat day of local dishes, such as panuchos, lime soup, sweet bread, cochinita pibil or lechón at the municipal market.

Fun Things To Do Merida:
The capital of Yucatan is best known in Mexico as La Blanca Merida (The white Merida). Take a stroll down Paseo de Montejo Avenue, it’s main and most popular street to discover an architectural style different from any other small town nearby. Since Merida was a rich city back in the day, the mansions or casonas that fill paseo de Montejo, will give you a glimpse of the lifestyle from that era.
Visit the market, don’t miss the opportunity to eat their famous cochinita pibil torta, and to wash it down with a coke for a must-try traditional combo. As a colonial city, Merida also has its iconic Cathedral near the city hall that you have to discover. Walk the downtown streets, meet its people’s joyful laughter, and enjoy your day.
But don’t let Merida fool you. You may think that this city is small and that there is nothing to see, yet nothing could be farther from the truth. Another must-see is the Gran Museo Maya and its famous Mayan archeological sites near Merida, such as Chichen Itza, Ek Balam, and Uxmal.
