Shepherd of the Hills is Branson's origin ground: Harold Bell Wright's 1907 novel, set on this homestead, drew the first tourists to the Ozarks — and the outdoor drama of that novel, performed where it is set, is one of America's longest-running. Today the campus layers the drama, an adventure park, a fish hatchery and dinner shows onto the historic ground.
The drama
Branson Fam's film experiences a night at the Outdoor Drama itself — the story that started Branson tourism. Their second film goes behind its 65th Anniversary Commemorative Show: alumni and current cast, the production's hidden legacy, and the dedication of a new adventure-park section at the event. OutRage's two films add the campus flavor, including the drama's famous cabin-burning scene and its patriotic prologue.
The campus
The modern Shepherd spreads wider: the Wild West Murder Mystery, an outdoor dinner show where the audience becomes part of the story (the Branson Fam kids' favorite); Pumpkinfest 2024 turning the homestead into a fall farm festival; the Adventure Park and 230-foot Inspiration Tower filmed by OutRage; and the Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery below Table Rock Dam — the state facility that stocks the region's trout — remodeled and reopened in 2025 (that film stands as watch content; its only caption track is an Arabic auto-translation). The Copperhead Mountain Coaster, on this same campus, has its own page here.
