Things to Do in Branson, Missouri
Branson sits in the Ozark Mountains of southwest Missouri and draws over 8 million visitors a year — mostly for the live entertainment. There are more theater seats in Branson than on Broadway. But the area is also lake country, cave country, and theme park territory.
Here’s everything worth doing.
Live Shows & Entertainment
Branson has 50+ live performance theaters running shows year-round. The mix ranges from country music legends to acrobats to comedy to full-scale variety productions.
Sight & Sound Theatres — Massive biblical stage productions with live animals, real water effects, and a 300-foot wrap-around stage. The closest thing Branson has to a Broadway-scale production. Advance tickets recommended — these sell out.
Dolly Parton’s Stampede — Dinner show with horses, riders, stunts, and a 4-course meal. It’s loud, over-the-top, and genuinely entertaining. Kids love it.
The Haygoods — A family act considered one of the best variety shows in Branson. Music, instruments, comedy, and energy that fills the room.
The Baldknobbers — The original Branson show, running since 1959. Comedy and country music from the family that started Branson’s entertainment strip.
Legends in Concert — Tribute artists performing as Elvis, Dolly, Johnny Cash, and others. Rotating lineup keeps it fresh.
Silver Dollar City
Branson’s flagship theme park is built around an 1880s Ozark village theme. The rides are legitimate — Outlaw Run is a wood-steel hybrid coaster that inverts three times, and Time Traveler is a spinning coaster that hits 50 mph.
Beyond the coasters, the park has over 100 resident craftsmen demonstrating glassblowing, blacksmithing, candy-making, and woodcarving. The festivals (Bluegrass & BBQ in spring, Christmas in Midtown from November) transform the park.
The connected Marvel Cave has been giving tours since 1894 — a 500-foot descent into one of the largest cave entrance rooms in America.
Table Rock Lake
Table Rock Lake is Branson’s backyard — 43,000 acres of clear Ozark water with 800 miles of shoreline. The lake is the reason half of Branson’s resorts exist.
Swimming — State Park Beach at Table Rock State Park is the main public swimming area. Sandy beach, changing facilities, lifeguards in summer.
Boating — Rentals range from pontoon boats to jet skis to full-day fishing boats. Indian Point Marina and State Park Marina are the two main launch points.
Fishing — Bass fishing is the main draw. Table Rock is ranked among the top bass lakes in the country. Largemouth, smallmouth, spotted bass, crappie, and catfish.
Showboat Branson Belle — A 700-passenger paddle wheeler that does lunch and dinner cruises on the lake with live entertainment onboard.
Outdoor Adventures
Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery — Missouri’s largest trout hatchery, right below Table Rock Dam. Free admission. Walk the raceways and watch rainbow and brown trout. The Conservation Nature Center has aquariums and exhibits.
Dogwood Canyon Nature Park — A 10,000-acre preserve 20 minutes south of Branson. Horseback riding, trout fishing, wildlife tram tours (bison and elk), and hiking through waterfalls and creek crossings. Admission is per-activity.
Top of the Rock — Jack Nicklaus-designed par-3 golf course at Big Cedar Lodge with views over Table Rock Lake. The Lost Canyon Cave & Nature Trail winds through caves and past waterfalls.
Zip Lines — Branson Zipline at Wolfe Mountain has multiple courses including one of the steepest zip lines in the country. Shepherd of the Hills Vigilante Extreme ZipRider drops you 170 feet over the forest canopy.
Downtown Branson & The Strip
Branson Landing — A waterfront shopping and dining complex on Lake Taneycomo in downtown Branson. The fountain show at Town Square synchronizes water, fire, and music every hour. Over 100 shops and restaurants.
76 Country Boulevard (The Strip) — The main drag where the theaters, restaurants, and attractions cluster. Track Family Fun Parks, Hollywood Wax Museum, Titanic Museum, and Ripley’s Believe It or Not are all along this stretch.
Historic Downtown Branson — The original town center, quieter than the strip. Antique shops, Dick’s 5 & 10 (a real old-fashioned five-and-dime), and local restaurants.
