Veracruz All Natural (multiple locations) — The consensus best breakfast taco in Austin. The migas taco (scrambled eggs with crispy tortilla strips, cheese, and salsa) is the city’s signature breakfast item. Multiple food truck and brick-and-mortar locations.

Valentina’s Tex Mex BBQ (south Austin) — The collision of BBQ and breakfast tacos. The Real Deal Holyfield — smoked brisket, egg, cheese, potato, and salsa in a flour tortilla — might be the single best breakfast item in Austin.

Joe’s Bakery (East Austin) — Since 1962. No-frills counter-service Mexican bakery. Breakfast tacos, menudo on weekends, and pan dulce. Cash preferred.

Torchy’s Tacos (multiple locations) — The Austin original that became a chain. The Trailer Park taco (fried chicken, green chiles, lettuce, pico, cheese) “trashy” (add queso) is the iconic order.

Biscuit Love (Austin location) — Nashville import. The bonuts (biscuit donuts) and the East Nasty (fried chicken biscuit) translate perfectly to Austin.

Bird Bird Biscuit (East Austin) — Fried chicken biscuit sandwiches with creative toppings. The Nelly (Nashville hot chicken biscuit with pickles and comeback sauce) is the signature.

Jacoby’s Restaurant & Mercantile (East Austin) — Ranch-to-table brunch on the banks of the Colorado River. Beef from their own ranch, farm eggs, and biscuits. The setting is spectacular.

June’s All Day (Bouldin Creek) — All-day café with a European sensibility. Pastries, grain bowls, and cocktails from morning to night. The courtyard is one of the best brunch settings in Austin.

Coffee

Houndstooth Coffee (multiple locations) — Austin’s specialty coffee standard. Single-origin espresso and pour-overs.

Fleet Coffee (East Austin) — Tiny roaster with excellent espresso. Standing room only, which is fine because you’ll be taking your coffee to go.
