Free Things to Do in Atlanta

Atlanta has an impressive amount of free culture, green space, and history. The BeltLine trail system, the MLK Historic Site, and several world-class museums with free admission days make it one of the best-value major cities in the Southeast.

The BeltLine (Free)

Atlanta BeltLine — A 33-mile loop of multi-use trails, parks, and public art connecting 45 neighborhoods around the city. The Eastside Trail (from Piedmont Park to Krog Street Market) is the most popular stretch — murals, restaurants, and a vibrant walking/cycling scene. Free.

Parks (Free)

Piedmont Park — Atlanta’s Central Park. 189 acres with walking paths, a lake, playgrounds, sports fields, and views of the Midtown skyline. Free.

Centennial Olympic Park — Built for the 1996 Olympics. The Fountain of Rings (a choreographed splash pad) is the centerpiece. Free. Great for families.

Freedom Park Trail — 2.5-mile trail connecting several neighborhoods with the Carter Presidential Center.

Free Museums & History

Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site (Sweet Auburn) — The birth home, Ebenezer Baptist Church (where MLK preached), the King Center, and the reflecting pool — all operated by the National Park Service. Free.

Center for Civil and Human Rights (free days) — Check for free admission events. Even at full price ($20), this is one of the most powerful museums in the South.

High Museum of Art (free second Sunday) — Free on the second Sunday of each month. Atlanta’s premier art museum.

Krog Street Tunnel — An underground tunnel connecting Cabbagetown and Inman Park, completely covered in ever-changing graffiti and street art. Free. Photogenic.

Food & Markets (Free to Browse)

Ponce City Market — The food hall in the old Sears building on the BeltLine. Free to browse, walk around, and enjoy the architecture.

Krog Street Market — Food hall and vendor market. Free entry.

Sweet Auburn Curb Market — Since 1923. A public market with food vendors, produce, and prepared food stalls. Free to browse.
