Best Restaurants in Atlanta

Atlanta’s food scene is one of the most dynamic in the South — from the James Beard Award winners to the international corridor on Buford Highway to the BeltLine restaurants redefining neighborhood dining.

Southern & Soul Food

Mary Mac’s Tea Room (Midtown) — Since 1945. The definitive Atlanta Southern restaurant. Fried chicken, pot likker (collard green broth with cornbread), fried green tomatoes, and banana pudding. Everyone from business executives to tourists eats here.

Busy Bee Cafe (Vine City) — Soul food institution since 1947. Fried chicken, mac and cheese, collard greens, and cornbread. MLK Jr. ate here. It’s been feeding Atlanta for 80 years.

The Colonnade (Midtown) — Since 1927. A locals’ institution for fried chicken, turkey and dressing, and Southern vegetables. The kind of place where regulars have “their table.”

Buford Highway — The International Corridor

Buford Highway (BuHi) northeast of Atlanta is one of the most diverse food corridors in America — Vietnamese, Korean, Chinese, Mexican, Ethiopian, Bangladeshi, and more.

Pho Dai Loi — Vietnamese pho in a strip-mall setting. The broth is rich, the portions are enormous, and the price is right.

Heirloom Market BBQ — Korean-Southern BBQ fusion in a gas station. Smoked pork with gochujang, kimchi slaw, and collard greens. James Beard-recognized.

Las Tortas Locas — Massive Mexican tortas and tacos. Authentic, cheap, and packed with locals.

Ponce City Market & BeltLine

Ponce City Market — A food hall in the former Sears building on the BeltLine. Tons of vendors: Hop’s Chicken, Minero (tacos from Sean Brock), Biltong Bar, and more. The rooftop has amusement rides and city views.

Krog Street Market — Another BeltLine food hall. Ticonderoga Club (cocktails and creative bar food), Jia (dim sum and Chinese BBQ), Fred’s Meat & Bread (burgers and sandwiches).

Fine Dining

Bacchanalia — Atlanta’s most acclaimed restaurant for over 20 years. Multi-course tasting menu with seasonal ingredients. Intimate and extraordinary.

Staplehouse (Old Fourth Ward) — Creative American tasting menu. James Beard Award winner. One of the best restaurants in the South.
